What’s a New Age man without a scarf?

Men have worn scarves during religious ceremonies as part of tradition in Eastern cultures. However, scarves have now become extremely popular fashion accessories for the New Age man. You can wear scarves in all seasons and all occasion. Whether it’s a business meeting with top honchos of the corporate world or a picnic with your family, your scarf remains an essential item of your daily wear.

When picking a scarf for wearing to work keep the following points in mind:

•    Complement the shirt with your scarf but it need not be just one solid color. If you’re wearing for example a deep red shirt, a black solid scarf would look fantastic particularly if you’re fair-skinned. Alternatively, you could choose a black scarf with small white checks. A patterned scarf looks much better with a single color shirt rather than with a checked shirt.
•    Don’t go for a scarf with long tassels when choosing one to wear to work. In fact one without tassels that you can wrap around your neck ascot style is formal and stylish at the same time. Also, try to wear a shorter scarf to work. The long ones are better for parties, dinners and other informal occasions.
•    Choose silk or knitted scarves for formal occasions while those in other fabric are better left for recreational occasions.

When picking a scarf for informal occasions keep the same color combination in mind but you can get bolder and more creative with the tying styles and patterns. A silk scarf with a picture of the Statue of Liberty works better if you are going out for dinner rather than to your office.

One of the most popular ways for men to wrap a scarf is to use the ascot knot. It works perfect for formal occasions and is pretty easy to set up. Here is how to try the ascot wrap:
•    Fold the scarf lengthwise as comfortable then put it around the back of the neck letting the two ends hang in front as if you would for a tie. The right end should be at least three inches shorter than the left.
•    Now take the longer end and go around the neck twice but on the second turn put the end of the scarf through the first loop and up to the top with only a bit of the top part being visible. You can spread it out a bit to the sides.
•    Then tuck the ends of the scarf into the front-end of the shirt. With practice you will be able to do it with finesse even making small creases or pleats in the muffler for stylish effect. You can use a tie pin to keep the scarf in place.
•    However, don’t wear ascots with big jackets or heavy sweaters as they are supposed to give you a fuller look around the throat.

You can also use long scarves simply tossed around the shoulders with the ends hanging in front. If you are a cosmopolitan guy experimenting with dress styles from around the world you will need to wear a long shawl-type scarf with most formal dresses for men in Asian countries.

In winter, you can use the scarf as a great keep-warm accessory too and, when going out with your partner, don’t forget to match your scarves!
